NADS vs Grads

Give yourself a pinch or your girlfriend or someone’s girlfriend?, no your not dreaming the NADS are legit!
It was a beautiful night for rugby and the weatherman cooperated with some cloud cover to start the game cooling off what other wise was a sizzling day. The NADS took the field with confidence and a nice complement of players. It is odd to see more than a couple, if any subs on the sideline! After the embarrassing loss last time these two teams went at it the NADS were making sure that they had enough players and speed to sub when needed!
It took about twenty minutes and a lot of grueling hard work by the forwards before the first try was actually scored. At 22:32 Kyle Leduc went in from about 9 meters out on well fought battle by the forwards who inched and fought their way from the their own 22 to punch it across for a well deserving 5 point lead! Greasy the NADS old time kicker who has only been getting better with age converted the try with ease.
Andrew Tjeltveit also scored 10 minutes later with another short spurt and again the forward’s grueling display of toughness and some finesse by the backs to get the NADS in range. The NADS capitalized on some sloppy passing by the grads when a missed passed by the grads was heading out of bounds and by some quick thinking and pure instinct of the game Murry Smith with a soccer style kick saved the ball an inch from the side line. Smith rocketed the ball forward along the sideline for speedster Elisha Baition to again give it another kick to gain some field advantage; run on to it and take it all the way down to the 5-meter line where the forwards went back to work.
Both youngsters Kyle Leduc and Andrew Tjeltveit played a strong game for the NADS who saw 4 rookies get playing time and contribute to the win!

Half time 14 – 5 NADS!

Second half was tougher than the first, which was to be expected as the Grads came out hitting harder than the first and with determination to get back into the game quickly! Greasie again added to the NAD lead as he kicked a penalty kick from about 30 meters out giving the NADS a 17 – 5 lead. The Grads immediately responded after the score to quick kick and catch the NADS sitting back on their fannies maybe a little to happy with the lead. It was evident how much was on the line with these two teams as tempers flared close to the NADs try line again and a fight broke out; and the Grads scored. Yes, the Grads scored as the fight was in progress without any stoppage in play by the official. No penalties were handed out even through second man in for the Grads was able to get some cheap shot punches off against the NADS who were only trying to stop the original bout.
Inspired by the heart of the rookie NAD who stood up and fought for his team the NADS answered back almost immediately with a phenomenal run and pass play by superstar 8 man Murry Smith. Breaking out on the short side he was able to sucker in some Grad defensive players and make a beautiful pass toAdrian Enns. Enns then scampered to the try line with a nice run from 20 meters outrunning 3 Grad tacklers. This try was not converted as Greasie was understandably distracted by a young lady in a bikini just behind the posts in the grads end zone. The Grads had no intentions of quitting after the score which gave the NADS the lead by 17 making the score 22 – 5. With again some quick work of the kickoff and some sit back sloppy play by the NADS the grad soon answered back with a try of their own, but missed the conversion making the score 22 – 10.
Hold on to your NADS! The best and sweetest play of the game came when Murry Smith who like a gazelle on this played broke loose and went on a gallop of about 40 meters before getting tripped up from behind, but not until popping the ball back to the lone support Albert’s who went into score his first of the game. This beautiful play caught admiration of the some 250 fans in the stands; as all stood cheering and applauding; except of course the Grad fans.

Final score 29 – 15…

Although there was some outstanding plays by certain leaders on the team all can be applauded on a truly great win by the entire team who say all contribute.

NADs vs Rogues

NADS come away with win despite being short staffed!
The Moose jaw NADS beat the odds this weekend as they took down the top team in the league with out three of their key players. Missing starters Emil Christianson, Tryan Sapergia, and World renowned rugby star Murray Smith. The NADS still managed to beat the Rogues 27 -0
The NADS had a 8 - 0 lead after the first half which could have been a lot worse had they capitalized on some very aggressive play and scored the numerous times they were within the 22 of the Rogues.
The NADS play of late has been very impressive and can be attributed to the impresssive improvement of the backs. Also to all star South African Martin Alberts who has made it his mission to have the NADS in the division 1 final this year. Alberts has been a main contibutor keeping the backs working hard and focused!

Stay tuned as the NADS play June 17 at home vs. the Grads.
The Grads will be a tough team to beat as they are the fittest team in the league having gone through a grueling training program all winter and into the summer at level 10 in Regina and the NADS have been on the Dave Jukes training program for most of the winter and spring only early summer they did realize this program was not working for them!

Mentionables: It was nice to have Reggy Jackson back in the line up, he also contributed to the victory. With luck he could possibly back for the play-offs. Reggy is currently farthering a rugby team of his own in Cold Lake Aberta.

NADS Proud of "Dick"

The Moose Jaw NADS are very proud of their very own Jeff Throssell. The long time member of the team set some goals for him self this last year that resulted with some amazing accompishments. Only a man with the determination and will power that Jeff has could accomplish what he did at his age. Awesome work "Dicky"
Jeff Throssell takes silver at the Sask. body building provincials in Saskatoon after winning Gold in April!
For more on this read the article in the Moose Jaw Times Hearld dated June 30!

Impressive first showing for Moose Jaw competitor
After winning his first bodybuilding gold medal in April, Jeff Throssell received a lot of accolades from performers and judges alike.

They were so impressed with his performance at the provincial qualifiers that they strongly encouraged him to make an appearance at the provincial championships.

The Moose Jaw native did just that, and while he picked up a silver medal, the experience was very different from what he expected.

“ There were no slouches at this one,” said Throssell with a laugh. “Everyone was in good shape. It was quite a different world from the other one. I guess that’s what happens when you go up a level.”

The Saskatoon competition last weekend was undoubtedly a tougher field. But he’s not sure the extra training to reach that level is something he’s comfortable doing.

“ Well, I don’t know if I’m going to do it again,” he said. “My joints are sore because my body has been so lean for so long. It takes a toll on the body.”

Once finished the competition, Throssell started eating a more normal diet, and he was surprised at how starved his body had been.

“I put 20 pounds back on in three days,” he said. “ When I started feeding it fruit and everything, it just sucked it right up.”
Throssell still works as a truck driver, finding creative ways to keep up his workout regimen while on the road. Now he’s taking that to another level.

“ I just got a semi-trailer customized and I bought some gym equipment and I’m going to live in it on the road, and have my gym in there too,” he said. “Maybe I will have the time to get serious about it, I don’t know.”

After meeting others in the sport, Throssell has a new appreciation for how much hard work and dedication is needed to find success at the higher levels.

“ There’s other people who work the long hours and do it too. It just takes a lot of determination with the diet,” he said. “ Training’s the easy part, at least until you get down to the end of your last month or so when you’re depleting down so much that you don’t have energy.”

For the moment, Throssell is evaluating his future as a bodybuilder. A second-place finish is nothing to sneeze at, and he’s considering a run at nationals in Saskatoon next year.

He certainly has no illusions about the nature of the sport, nor about what it takes to win.

“It’s all just for one day. That’s what people do for photo shoot, and that’s what people need to realize,” he said. “ You’re never going to look like people on the cover of a magazine, because this is what people do for a living. They know how to manipulate their body for one day.”
