NADS Proud of "Dick"

The Moose Jaw NADS are very proud of their very own Jeff Throssell. The long time member of the team set some goals for him self this last year that resulted with some amazing accompishments. Only a man with the determination and will power that Jeff has could accomplish what he did at his age. Awesome work "Dicky"

Impressive first showing for Moose Jaw competitor
After winning his first bodybuilding gold medal in April, Jeff Throssell received a lot of accolades from performers and judges alike.

They were so impressed with his performance at the provincial qualifiers that they strongly encouraged him to make an appearance at the provincial championships.

The Moose Jaw native did just that, and while he picked up a silver medal, the experience was very different from what he expected.

“ There were no slouches at this one,” said Throssell with a laugh. “Everyone was in good shape. It was quite a different world from the other one. I guess that’s what happens when you go up a level.”

The Saskatoon competition last weekend was undoubtedly a tougher field. But he’s not sure the extra training to reach that level is something he’s comfortable doing.

“ Well, I don’t know if I’m going to do it again,” he said. “My joints are sore because my body has been so lean for so long. It takes a toll on the body.”

Once finished the competition, Throssell started eating a more normal diet, and he was surprised at how starved his body had been.

“I put 20 pounds back on in three days,” he said. “ When I started feeding it fruit and everything, it just sucked it right up.”
Throssell still works as a truck driver, finding creative ways to keep up his workout regimen while on the road. Now he’s taking that to another level.

“ I just got a semi-trailer customized and I bought some gym equipment and I’m going to live in it on the road, and have my gym in there too,” he said. “Maybe I will have the time to get serious about it, I don’t know.”

After meeting others in the sport, Throssell has a new appreciation for how much hard work and dedication is needed to find success at the higher levels.

“ There’s other people who work the long hours and do it too. It just takes a lot of determination with the diet,” he said. “ Training’s the easy part, at least until you get down to the end of your last month or so when you’re depleting down so much that you don’t have energy.”

For the moment, Throssell is evaluating his future as a bodybuilder. A second-place finish is nothing to sneeze at, and he’s considering a run at nationals in Saskatoon next year.

He certainly has no illusions about the nature of the sport, nor about what it takes to win.

“It’s all just for one day. That’s what people do for photo shoot, and that’s what people need to realize,” he said. “ You’re never going to look like people on the cover of a magazine, because this is what people do for a living. They know how to manipulate their body for one day.”
